How to Reach Us
The Department of Computer Science at the
University of Bologna
is located in a small annex building right around the corner from the Department of Mathematics, which itself
is at the end of Via Zamboni (the street where most of the University
administrative offices are located) in Piazza Porta San Donato (one of the
old city gates on the ring road called the "Viali" around the historic center).
You may consult either a simplified map
or a detailed map
of the city. Once at the Department of Mathematics, you
can ask the personale at the entrance for Mura Anteo Zamboni, 7.
Most of the Computer Science staff have ofices on the third (top) floor of
this small building.
Here are some generic telephone, fax numbers and an email address:
Tel: +39 51 354516
Fax: +39 51 354510
Email:
postmaster@cs.unibo.it
Consult the
people search page for direct telephone numbers and email addresses of
individuals.
Find your way to the base of the two leaning towers (due torri).
One of the radial
roads that starts at that point is Via Zamboni along which most of
the University
administrative buildings and Departments are located. Walk down Via Zamboni
away from the towers. Walk past Piazza Verdi where the Opera is located on
your left. Continue to the end of Via Zamboni until you see the old city
gate. The square is called Piazza Porta S. Donato and the Mathematics
Department is the (relatively) modern building on the right just as you enter
the Piazza.
You cannot purchase bus tickets on board.
You may purchase them either at "tobacco shops" that display the big "T" sign
outside, or at newsstands. The current
one-way fare is 1500 Lire (consult the
currency
converter for exchange rates). You may also purchase a "city-pass" which
offers 8 trips, valid at any time, for 10000 Lire.
Further autobus information.
G. Marconi International Airport, which serves Bologna, is about 10km to
the north-west of the city.
You have three options for reaching the center from the airport:
- Special "Aerobus" service. The bus runs from 06.30 to 23.20 at
about 30-minute intervals and makes only 4 stops in the city center
(including the train station) and continues on to the trade fair district.
Tickets may be purchased on board.
- Regular city bus service.
Bus 91B leaves from the airport arrival area and follows a course similar to
that of the Aerobus, except making far more frequent stops.
See above for bus information.
-
Taxi. The trip takes around 15 minutes
(barring traffic jams) and should cost around 25000 Lire.
Flight schedules and other information.
As you leave the Railway Station from the main exit, cross the small
piazza and the
ring road (Viali) to the other side. Almost straight ahead is
``Ristorante Risbo,'' in front of which you will find stops for
busses 32, 36, and 37 that all go to the University. The direction of travel
with respect to the Station exit is towards the left. The trip only takes
5 to 10 minutes. Ask the driver or someone for "Fermata San Donato".
During working hours busses pass every 5-10 minutes.
For railway station information, call 24.64.90
Bologna Railway Station is the most important node in Italy and is quickly
reachable by train from all major Italian cities as well as many other
European cities.
Approximate train travel times to/from Bologna:
- Rome: 3 hours
- Milan: 2 hours
- Venice: 2 hours
- Florence: 1 hour
It is best not to arrive in downtown Bologna by car. The historic
center is (in theory) closed to motor vehicles. If your car has
out-of-province (non-Bologna) license plates, you can drive on limited roads
to get to hotels, etc. Even in the best case, the roads are very
narrow, many of them one-way and on-street parking is just about non
existent. In case you absolutely must drive into the Department,
here are the directions.
Arriving on the autostrada from any direction, get on the Bologna "tangenziale"
(the Beltway) and look for exit 7, near the Fiera (Trade Fair)
district. The exit is directly north of the city. From the exit,
follow "Via Stalingrado" towards "Centro". Once you arrive at Porta Mascarella after having crossed the bridge over the railroad tracks, turn left
and follow the Viali to Porta San Donato.
Turning right at Porta Mascarella will take you towards the train station.
